El Mariachi

I am heading off to Austin this evening on what it turns out is CINCO DE MAYO! Now before you get all excited as you think about all of the exciting festivities I will participate in (read: speaking softly and carrying a big stick...what?), bear in mind that I am only going for a workshop/conference for my job. This conference has such exciting segments as "Regional Reliability Standards - Top Ten Questions" and "Elements of a Culture of Compliance."

I hope those "elements" are cookies and back rubs. That would encourage me to be compliant.

It is probably best that I don't party anyways as I am bearing down into the home stretch of the weight loss contest (that apparently encourages me to eat boogers). I don't know if it's accurate or not, but the word on the street about one of my competitors is that he will likely have lost thirty to thirty-five pounds by the contest's end, which is, uh, much less than I have lost.* The most difficult thing about his potential weight loss is that he was the lightest to start with, so each pound he loses is worth more than every pound I lose because we are measuring weight loss on a percentage of starting weight level.

Once again I am defeated by math (see also: the college physics course I thought it was a good idea to take as an elective because the professor claimed it was not math-intensive; let's just say I would hate to see a math-intensive course from that professor), but at least I am headed to Texas. Yippie-kai-yay.

*This statement may or may not be accurate (but probably is)**.
**This parenthetical phrase may or may not be accurate (but probably is).

Hooray for Texas! And weight loss! And college physics--Oh, that's easy! Actually, hooray that we made it through that class without committing suicide. And we get the good laugh out of it from Loren's escapade at the end.

Have fun in my home state. Tell Texas hi for me and that I miss it a lot. And that I really really want to move there, but someone keeps forgetting to tell God that He needs to get Pete a job there...

Yay for the home stretch of the weight loss challenge! I think it's going to be pretty darn close, but we'll see. Happy Cinco de Mayo, A.C.!!!
